9” x 12” - Giclee Print

About the Artist / Artwork

The spectacular “Puccini La Boheme” by Adolfo Hohenstein was the perfect counterpart for the flamboyant 19th Century Italian opera music it advertised. A German Art Nouveau master, Hohenstein (1854 – 1928) was so intertwined with the Italian spirit that he was dubbed “Father of the Italian Poster.” The Italian poster became an art form when music publisher Ricordi began printing them in-house, resulting in immense works whose drama paired well with the theatrical Italian opera.

About the Artist / Artwork

Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec (1864 – 1901) was a French artist who vividly captured the 19th century’s festive Parisian nightlife in paintings and posters. Toulouse-Lautrec began his artistic career when, as a teenager, he injured both of his legs and immersed himself in art during his long convalescence. In adulthood, he joined the culture of Paris’ bohemian Montmartre section, and painted its spectacle of circuses, dance halls, nightclubs and racetracks, as well as the artists, streetwalkers, writers, aristocrats and dancers he befriended. He began to exhibit widely, and Vincent Van Gogh’s brother Theo was one of his patrons. Institutionalized for alcoholism, he created an incredible array of circus drawings from memory during his confinement.

About the Artist / Artwork

Infusing his Parisian ‘bon vivant’ vintage advertisement art with bright lively colors and highly pictorial style, Francisco Tamagno introduces hints of his own Portuguese origin and signature style. Tamagno can be counted among the original movement of the Turn of the 20th Century’s fanciful graphic poster tradition that is enjoying a resurgence in popularity today as vintage art. Born in Sintra, Portugal in 1851, his early artistic career was as a portrait painter before moving to Paris in the 1880’s. He became the house artist of printer Camis; preparing theatrical playbills at first, and eventually graduating to posters for railroads, bicycle manufacturers and distilleries. Tamagno died in Paris in 1923.

About the Artist / Artwork

Norman Rockwell (1894 – 1978), one of America’s most beloved artists, left a timeless legacy of nostalgic, endearing, whimsical paintings that appealingly and insightfully depict simple, and often idyllic, scenes from daily life. After illustrating a series of children’s books at age 16, Rockwell was hired to be the art director of “Boys’ Life,” the official publication of the Boy Scouts of America. Six years later, he sold his first cover to the most prestigious magazine of the era, the “Saturday Evening Post.” Over the next 47 years, he created 321 covers for the “Post,” which became synonymous with his name. He later worked for “Look” magazine, addressing more serious issues of civil rights, poverty and space exploration.
